Buhari - The December deadline to end Boko Haram insurgency is subject to modification

The December deadline given to the military to end Boko Haram insurgency is subject to modification, President Muhammadu ‎Buhari has said.

The president, who stated this while declaring open the Annual Chief of Army Staff Conference on Monday in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, said new operational exigencies in the theatre of operation may require the deadline to be modified.


Presidentwas represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS) General Gabriel Olonisakin stated this while declaring open the Annual Chief of Army staff conference held on Monday in Dutse, Jigawa state.

He stated that new operational exigencies may require a modification of the December deadline of ending insurgency.

“Let me emphasize that the time frame given is only a guideline and if exigencies of multiple operations across advices a modification, the federal government will not hesitate ‎to do so ‎in order to address the flash points that are rearing their heads in this country”, President Buhari, represented by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Gabriel Olonisakin, stated on the occasion.

He added that: “The army must therefore develop new strategies to address current security challenges facing the country and ensure total elimination of insurgents”.
