The Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel believes his team is moving in the right direction following a 0-0 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday, December 28.
But according to Mikel, top four finish this season is still up for grab for his team despite sitting 15 points behind Tottenham who currently occupy the 4th position on the log.
In an interview on the club’s website, Chelseafc.com, Mikel said:
“I don’t think it’s gone.
“We’ve got lots of games to catch up and if we keep going in this direction and keeping clean sheets, we will definitely score goals.
“The atmosphere was always fine, we just weren’t getting the results, I don’t know what it was. Jose is a fantastic manager and always will be, he’s a fantastic guy but sometimes football is a cruel game and we have to move on.”
Speaking on the arrival of Guus Hiddink, Mikel said: “He (Hiddink) was here before and he knows the place. There are different players but it’s the same staff; it’s only me, JT and Ivanovic from when he was here last time, but he knows what to do so we just have to take it step by step.
“We are down there in the table and he can’t just come in and perform miracles, but we want to get out of it and climb up the table, it’s three games now without losing so that’s a good step.
“We had a good result in the end against Man Utd.
“There were a few chances for them and the same for us as well, but when you look back at the game a draw was a fair result.
“Eden has played there (up front) a few times this season and he knew exactly what to do. We went into the game not wanting to lose. We wanted to win, we didn’t want to draw and you could see that from the way we played and the chances we created, but at the same time you don’t want to lose. It was a balanced game and a step forward for us.
“Both teams are not in the right place now to attack, attack, attack and sometimes you have to be clever and settle for a point.”
He is one of only three players in the squad to have played under Guus Hiddink during his first spell in charge back in 2009 and Chelsea are now unbeaten in the last three Premier League matches after Manchester United draw.
